Academic Support Services: Testing Center

The Testing Center provides a secure and quiet environment for students to take exams, with proctored testing services and adherence to all exam policies and guidelines.

Testing Center Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Missouri Valley College Testing Center Policy

Test Center Rules for Testers:

  • Identification Requirement: Testers must present a valid photo ID (driver’s license, school ID, or military ID) before being admitted for testing. No ID, no test.

  • Personal Items Prohibited: The following items are prohibited while taking a test and must be stored in lockers provided by the Testing Center:

    • Backpacks, briefcases, purses, bags, and wallets

    • Cell phones, smartwatches, and electronic devices

    • Calculator covers, unless approved

    • Sunglass/eyeglass cases, pencil bags, or boxes

  • Use of Electronic Devices: Possession or use of cell phones or electronic devices while testing will immediately terminate your exam.

  • Restroom Breaks: Testers may not take restroom breaks once the exam has begun.

  • Materials and Calculators: Only materials approved by the instructor are allowed. Calculators connected to the internet or with separate alphabetical keyboards are prohibited. The Testing Center reserves the right to inspect student-supplied calculators.

  • No Test Inspection: Testers cannot preview the test before starting it.

  • Talking Prohibited: Silence must be maintained in the testing room. Testers should enter and exit quietly.

  • Test Time Management: Testers are responsible for keeping track of their time for paper tests. Testing staff will collect all tests once the allocated time has expired.

  • Illness or Emergency: If a tester becomes ill or experiences a medical emergency during testing, the Testing Center staff may end the test to ensure the safety of all involved.

Consequences of Cheating: Testing Center staff will follow the instructor’s directions and report the incident if cheating is suspected. The instructor will determine the consequences per college policies.

This policy creates a secure, distraction-free environment while following best practices. 

Important Reminders for Faculty

  • Submission Deadline: Submit the test and complete the Test Submission Form at least 24 hours before the student’s scheduled test time.

  • Academic Integrity: Testing Center staff will enforce strict rules to prevent cheating. If any issues arise, staff will report the incident to you immediately for further action.

  • Testing Window: Communicate the dates the student can take the test. With your permission, the Testing Center will only allow students to take tests outside the specified window.

  • Materials for Students: Ensure that any materials (e.g., calculators, notes, etc.) allowed during the test are explicitly listed on the submission form. The Testing Center will follow your instructions strictly.

Faculty Steps for Submitting a Test to the Testing Center

The Testing Center is committed to providing a secure and supportive environment for students to take exams. This document outlines the steps faculty must follow to ensure the center's successful use.

  1. Complete the Test Submission Form

    • Before a student can take a test in the Testing Center, the faculty member must complete the Testing Center Submission Form.

    • This form should include the following information:

      • Student Name(s)

      • Course Name/Number

      • The Desired Date Range for Test Completion: Specify the start and end dates when the student is allowed to take the exam.

      • Allotted Time for Test: Indicate the time the student has to complete the exam (e.g., 60 minutes).

      • Permitted Materials: List any materials students may or may not use during the test (e.g., calculator, formula sheet, textbook, etc.). Be specific about any restrictions (e.g., non-programmable calculator only).

    • The form is available online or in hard copy at the Testing Center.

  2. Submit the Exam to the Testing Center

    • Digital Submission: You can submit the test via email to [testingcenter@moval.edu]. Staff will send a confirmation email once received.

    • Hard Copy Submission: If you prefer to submit a physical copy of the exam, drop it off at the Testing Center at least 24 hours before the student is scheduled to take the test.

    • Be sure to include any special instructions or additional materials needed for the test.

  3. Notify the Student

    • Inform your student that the test has been submitted to the Testing Center.

    • Remind them of any deadlines and materials they can bring (e.g., photo ID, calculator, etc.).

    • The student should schedule their testing appointment during the allowed test window.

  4. Set Specific Instructions for the Test

    • Special Requirements: If the exam has specific requirements (e.g., open book, calculator allowed, notes allowed, extended time etc.), clearly indicate this on the submission form.

    • Handling of the Test: Provide instructions on how you’d like the completed test returned to you (e.g., scanned and emailed, left for pickup, etc.).

  5. Communicate Testing Center Policies to Students

    • Encourage students to review the Testing Center Rules, which can be found on this guide.

    • Remind them that they must:

      • Present a valid photo ID to be admitted to the testing room.

      • Arrive on time and complete the test within the allotted time.

      • Store personal items (e.g., cell phones, backpacks) in the lockers provided by the Testing Center.

  6. Test Pickup/Return

    • Once the student has completed the test, it will be returned to you according to the method you selected on the submission form.

    • If you pick up the exam in person, please retrieve it within 48 hours of the test’s completion.
